Lorraine Embraces Lifesaving Role

When Lorraine Cieslar from Garrowhill found herself between jobs, she decided to take a first aid course to enhance her CV. During the course, the Scottish Ambulance Service trainer invited the attendees to join a programme called GoodSAM Responder, a community first aid initiative.

The GoodSAM Cardiac system integrates with the ambulance service’s computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems to mobilise nearby responders while an ambulance is on its way. A few months ago, Lorraine received her first alert. As the nearest responder, she was able to get to the person in need’s home in three minutes and performed CPR until the paramedics arrived and took over with a defibrillator.

Now, Lorraine is urging anyone with a first aid qualification to join GoodSAM

and register as a responder. On the morning of Lorraine’s first call-out, she managed to keep the person alive until the paramedics arrived. By encouraging more qualified individuals to join GoodSAM, Lorraine hopes to fill the community with emergency responders, ensuring help is always nearby.
